Day 2 of F.O.O.D. – Using PEAR to enhance your Influencing Skills

Hello!  It’s day 2 of my Advent Calendar and in my clip today I’d like to share my PEAR technique to help with your influencing skills.

P is for problem solving. We often feel that to solve problems we need to influence others, where in actual fact, it’s much better to approach the issue the other way around. Show people how you can help them solve an issue, fix a problem or help manage risk and you are much more likely to influence them.

E is for empathy, because I doubt we’ll ever be able to influence someone if we don’t know what it’s like to walk in their shoes, or see the challenge that they’re facing from their point of view. Did you know that we’re also more attractive to others when we show empathy?!

Active listening for me, means taking away the distractions and paying full attention to the other person. Listen with your whole body, eg eyes, ears and heart. It will help you to pick up on the little things that make the difference.

Finally use R to demonstrate your reliability. The more consistent you are in the way you act and behave, achieve results etc, the more you are going to build strong foundations for a lasting relationship. When you are unreliable, your credibility flies out of the window!
