M is for Mental Toughness

M is for Mental Toughness

I feel as if I’ve known this quote all my life, ingrained from a young age and now the root of my optimistic approach to whatever I do. I used to think it was the same for everyone, however I realise that it isn’t the case. You see we’re only ever as strong as that voice in our heads and when it’s working for us, we’re unstoppable. When we fall over, we get back up and try all over again. Yet, when the voice is doom and gloom, it can demotivate us, we can ask our selves ‘why bother?’ and we’re much more likely to give up.

Michael Jordan once said ‘I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.’

We’ve all learned so many things throughout our lives and we need to continually challenge those experiences, thoughts, attitudes and habits to make sure we are achieving our potential. Some things will need unlearning and relearning to serve us better, which isn’t easy. However, if we think we can, we really can.

I’m holding a workshop with my colleague, Judith Kriechefski, on 16th July to share ways to build up our mental toughness and resilience. Why not join us. It’s going to be a 90 minute session, which will be highly interactive and provide you with some very practical activities to use straight away.
