Vulnerability and courage

What might feel like vulnerability on the side looks like courage on the outside

During my coaching recently, the topic of vulnerability has raised its head several times. You know the feeling when your negative self-talk is speaking up so loudly about what you can’t do and how you’ll be perceived if you get it wrong or ask for help.

The interesting thing is that all these people are seen as brave and courageous by their colleagues, not people who would have moments of self-doubt or fear.

It made me think about the courage of vulnerability and how often they’re intertwined.

How many times have we taken a risk while been racked with uncertainty? Stepping out into the unknown or facing challenges can feel overwhelming.

Yet others don’t see our fear. They admire the effort.

The more we practice our vulnerabilities the more we start to see them growing in strength. That’s because when we embrace our discomfort it can lead to our personal development and enable our comfort zones to grow.

Resilience is built through facing our fears rather than avoiding them, and using them as our stepping stones to being even more courageous.

So, if you’re feeling vulnerable at the moment, take time to:

🌟 Recognise your own moments of bravery.

🌟 Reinforce the idea that courage isn’t the absence of fear – it’s action despite fear.

🌟 Embrace vulnerability as a form of strength, so ask for help when you need it.

And remember, if you’re role modelling vulnerability to others, you’ll create a ripple effect. Sharing struggles creates greater levels of trust, psychological safety, and reduces stress levels.

Why wouldn’t we embrace it??!!
